My sincerest condolences to Mr. May's Family.  It was both an honor and a pleasure to work with Jim.  He leaves behind a fine legacy through his family and students.

May the Lord give the MAY family strength and comfort during this time. Mr. May was my band director at Medina Valley High School my junior and senior year.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the May family.  Mr. May was a wonderful band director, teacher, mentor, and all around great person.  He genuinely cared about his students and always managed to bring out the best in each and every one of them....many of them in spite of themselves.  We will never forget his smile, his funny stories, and encouraging words.  Mr. May will definitely be missed.  We are all truly blessed to have had him in our lives. what a pleasure it was to have had the opportunity wo work with Jim.  He touched so many people, and made a positive difference in improving student's lives.  Just a good guy that cared about others.

The world has lost another great man, a great caring educator. One of few who ever showed and proved to our 90's McCollum H.S. students that he cared and encouraged them to all be the best they could possibly be no matter their place in life. Mr. May was a funny man during my years at McCollum High School. He was always carrying a smile. May he rest in peace.

Mr. May was the best band director and teacher I had all through school.  He made band so much fun at McCollum.  I will never forget his funny stories, and his most famous one that started out, "There are three kinds of people: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who don't know what just happened."  He usually was comparing us to the third kind, but all in good fun.  He will be dearly missed.

Years after graduation from Burbank HS in 1965, I ran into Mr. May and his wife at a Ray Price concert, they were attending with his mother, who was a big Ray Price fan.  I was very pleased that he remembered me; he was a great teacher, I have and will always remember him fondly.

I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. May while I was a band student at McCollum High School (91-95) .  He was a wonderful band director and his passion for music was contagious.  My condolences to the May family.  God bless you all during this difficlut time.

Mr. May I will never forget you, I will never forget how much you inspired me and gave me the energy to stay with the McCollum Band!  I will never forget the first time I met you and you had so many negative things to say about me!  But made me realize it wasn't negativity it was you pushing to make me the best I can be and make me a better person!  I loved how everyday you talked of your pig and how his squeal sounded better then all of us combined.  But god how I would have loved to have thanked you and given you my respect before you met our lord!  From me and all of the class of '94 and beyond I thank you for giving me the push I needed

I was Jim's student at Mc Collum from 88-92. He always knew how to keep us smiling and laughing! His was a grace not often found, with a kind heart and poet's soul. I am a better person and a better man to have had him as a mentor, a teacher and as a friend. May The Lord keep him in his good graces.

Mr. May was truly an inspiration to a generation of students.  His love of music was surpassed only by his fondness for a good story.  I can only imagine how many lives he touched in his many years of teaching.  He inspired me to help create a new marching band for a high school and to drive home the importance of music in all our lives.  He will be sorely missed.

Mr. May was such a kind and gentle person. So many wonderful memories. My heart goes out to Violet & Family during this difficult loss. May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time.

I worked with Jim at McCollum High School.  He told the funniest stories during our lunch time shared in the teachers' lounge.  He had such a wonderful spirit and a twinkle in his eye.  He loved music and his students. Happy trails musical Cowboy!

My deepest condolences to the May family. I was in the Cowboy band 85-89. I still can hear him say "you are burning daylight people."  He made our trip to Washington DC so much fun. He was an amazing man. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. May was my band director at Medina Valley in Castroville.  I have such fond memories and have never forgotten him.  I never  knew what became of him, but I'm happy to know that he had a family who loved him so much.  My sympathy goes to you now and my prayers in the coming days. It is with deep sadness that I express my condolences to Violet and the family.  Jim was a wonderful teacher, leader and friend.  Memories of his work with us in Harlandale ISD are remembered fondly and his support and encouragement over the years will not be forgotten. Violet:  How sad I am to know that Jim is gone!   One of the things I really admired about Jim was his humility. I was a student of his at McCollum from 91-95. He was a great teacher with an amazing spirit. Violet I hope the lord grants you and your family peace in this dark time and know his legacy will go on in all the lives he touched-I think back to those days with him at every football game when the band takes the field and I heard them say "Howdy you all..."
