John Barrie Brown, 94, passed on to his heavenly reward on August 7, 2025, with his family by his side. Born to the late Oscar Brown and Louise Nelson on August 4, 1931, John lived in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, since 2016.
John married Brenda Eileen Archer in 1954, and they traveled across the United States and Europe for 62 years before settling in Horseshoe Bay. They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary on February 4, 2024. John is survived by five children: Deborah Neiman (Terry), of Horseshoe Bay; Steven Brown (Colette), of Austin, Texas; Judy Laube (Rick), of Spicewood, Texas; Donald Brown (Ellen), of Cibolo Texas; and Suzanne Brown of Horseshoe Bay. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Geddes of Santa Fe, Texas; his grandchildren Nicolas Garcia, Jaclyn Powell, Christopher Neiman, Jordan Neiman, Leah Lash, and Lauren Laube; his nephew Alan Rowe; and five great-grandsons. John was predeceased by his wife Brenda, his parents Oscar and Louise; brothers Horace Jones and Bobby Jones; and sisters Caroline Gunderson, Annette Mitchell, and Patsy Ann Gaspard.
John loved his family dearly, always putting their needs before his own. He selflessly served his country in the United States Army for over 26 years and the State of Texas for ten years. As a church deacon, he was always available to those who needed an encouraging word. He spent countless hours on projects to upgrade church facilities or the homes of its members. Above all, John loved the Lord. Every decision he made over the past five decades of his life were Christ focused. His dry sense of humor, wisdom and judgment will be missed daily.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at The Church at Horseshoe Bay. An on-site reception will follow immediately after the ceremony. The family requests that people make donations in support of Alzheimer’s Association, in lieu of sending flowers.
