October 7, 1949 – October 13, 2015
Les Moncus, 66, born in Waco, TX to Lawrence L. and Joan D. Moncus, died peacefully at his home in Spicewood, TX, succumbing to metastatic melanoma. His life was filled with adventure, having lived abroad in his youth in Caracas, Venezuela, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mexico City and returning to the states to finish high school in Houston. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1972, where he was a member and president of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
Les was an active sportsman. He played baseball, coached women’s softball and was a certified scuba instructor. He raced cars in the Porsche Club, was an instructor in the PCA Maverick region and played competitive racquetball and golf. He also enjoyed quieter pursuits, like a lifetime love of cooking, photography, music and spending time with his wonderful dogs. A perfect day for Les started with doing something outside and ended with fixing a great meal for family and friends while listening to music with the dogs underfoot and a single malt scotch in his hands.
After graduating college, Les went to work for Vicinay International Chain Company, where he continued to work his entire career. This wonderful company afforded Les 44 years with valued colleagues, close friendships and countless trips to Spain, a home away from home where he could exercise his language expertise.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Trish Moncus, stepsons and daughter in laws Joseph and Natalie David, and SSG Scott and Anna David and four wonderful grandchildren – Hannah Slayden, Ashlynn Eads, Addison David and John Tristan David, along with his three beloved fur babies – Paco, Mattie and Juno. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends who will treasure his memory.
A private celebration of his life is planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, Les requested donations to be made to Highland Lakes SPCA, P.O. Box 1275, Marble Falls, TX 78654 or Highland Lakes Habitat for Humanity P.O. Box 1406, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
