Loraine was born in Mumford, Texas, on August 21, 1925. She married Rex Jackson on October 14, 1944, in Hearne, Texas, while Rex was stationed at the Bryan Air Base, and worked at Texas A&M University until Rex’s discharge from the Army Air Corp.
Rex and Loraine moved to Austin following Rex’s discharge, and Loraine attended the University of Texas. She began working for the University of Texas Ex-Students Association and later was named program director of what is now the UT Alumni Association. She also traveled extensively with the UT Flying Longhorns as the Alumni Association representative. She retired from the Alumni Association in 1980 after 32 years of service, and upon her retirement the Association’s Executive Council issued a proclamation specifying their deep gratitude and affection for her years of dedicated service.
Following Rex and Loraine’s retirement in 1980, the couple moved to Marble Falls. Loraine was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, and she and Rex continued their travel experiences by organizing trips for the Methodist Road Runners of the church. During her years at First United Methodist, Loraine chaired the Official Board, directed the children’s choirs and served as president of United Methodist Women. She always sang in the choir. Prior to moving to Marble Falls, Loraine and Rex were charter members of Asbury United Methodist Church in Austin.
Loraine felt the need to stay busy every waking hour. While semi-retired she edited Cook’em Horns, The Quickbook for the Ex-Students’ Association. She was staff coordinator for the original Cook ‘em Horns. She loved testing the books’recipes, and her home was always full of good food and great friends. For many years Loraine shared her needle work talent with family and friends. She crafted Christmas ornaments, sweaters, afghans, hats and pillows with ferocious speed. She never met a stranger, and she had unwavering love for her Texas Longhorns, win or lose.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Pearl Nunley McNeil; her sisters, Francis Koole and Mavis Jennings; and her husband, Rex. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Jackson and husband Jake Jacobsen of Marble Falls; her nieces, Sandy Williams of Spicewood, Gail Magers of Friendswood, and her nephew, Jim Jennings of Amarillo; and her beloved godchildren of the Collier and Livingston families.
Loraine’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Gateway Garden for 13 years of loving care. The family suggests memorials to the Rex and Loraine Jackson Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr., Marble Falls, Texas 78654.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. Burial will be Wednesday, February 11, at 10 a.m. at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
