Mary Hall of Horseshoe Bay, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Horseshoe Bay, Texas surrounded by family. She was born in Garden City, Kansas, on October 21, 1931, to Fred and Emily Hunerlach and had just celebrated her 91st birthday. Her family was with her in celebration and in her passing, just as she wanted. In her words, Mary said “my life has been so full and blessed with this precious family, longevity, and my faith. I am so proud and blessed to be the head of this precious flock – my chicks always.” She was our matriarch, a loving mother of three sons, six grandsons, and two great-grandchildren; she cared deeply for her four brothers (Don, Vern, Hal, and Ron) and sister (Nathalie), and her many nieces and nephews. Her three daughters-in-law were the daughters she never had; she loved them dearly, just as her own. Family was the joy of her life and always came first for Mary, who often sacrificed her own needs for those of others. She sought to take care of others and never wanted to be taken care of, even in her final days. Right up until the end she was full of life, ending her birthday celebration remarks to the family with “now let’s party!” And we did!
Mary and her husband of 43 years, Claude Hall, Jr. (2002), met in Chico, California. They lived in Redding, California, Medford, Oregon, and Kettering, Ohio, before settling in Texas. Ultimately, they made their home in Horseshoe Bay. Every step in their journey they made new friends, most of which became life-long friends. Mary’s friends and family will tell you she was a ferocious competitor whether it be in golf or cards. Her family will tell you she was the most loyal and ardent of fans watching her sons and grandsons in soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and marching band. Looking back, all will tell you she never missed an important event; she was always there for her family. She was a devoted Catholic and never missed a mass either, although she relished the opportunity to attend Saturday evening mass to make a Sunday morning tee time! Her faith was at the essence of her being and something she embedded in her family. To many of her friends she was also known as Mrs. Claus (to Claude’s Santa Claus), bringing joy to countless children on Christmas Eve for decades.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, best friend, and golfing partner, Claude Hall, Jr., also of Horseshoe Bay, Texas (2002) and son Darrin Hall of Allen, Texas (2008). Mary is survived by her family which includes brother Ron (Midge) of Auburn, California, daughter-in-law Beth Hall Kelley of Allen, Texas, sons Darric Hall (Beverly) of Flower Mound, Texas, and Damin Hall (Julia) of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, grandsons Nathan Hall (Elyse), Austin Hall, Cameron Hall (Lauren), Evan Hall, Collin Hall (Kendahl), and Mason Hall, and great-grandchildren Allison Hall and Brooks Hall.
A mass will be held in Mary’s honor at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Horseshoe Bay, Texas January 14, 2023 at 10am followed by a lunch reception for friends and family.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the Aspen Healthcare Hospice team for the loving and
compassionate care provided to Mary in her final days. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Mary’s memory to either Aspen Healthcare Hospice (1201 Sam Bass Rd., Suite 200, Round Rock, TX 78681) or American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
