Our thoughts and prayers are with the Figun family.  Mrs. Figun is truly a treasure who was chosen to join God in Heaven.  We can look to how she lead her life as an example of being a faithful disciple for Christ.  God's blessings.

Remember Col Figun well worked with her at Reese Hospital.  What a kind, loving person she was.  She will definitely be missed.

I was fortunate to have a "unique" personal and professional relationship with Monica Wolfe. In late Fall of 1973, we both arrived as new Air Force 1Lts. at Mt.Home AFB Idaho (10mi. from the town in middle of a sage-brush desert!) We were both assigned to work on a busy Multi-Service Unit. Single and in our mid-20s, we lived on base in austere Officers' Qtrs. on a rural base). Monica's outgoing personality,  love of the AF, sense of humor/wit made my transition to the military much easier. (Having left a "big city" life, I still had reservations about leaving Ohio and joining the Air Force) Monica took it all in stride and offered daily reassurance  I would adjust. She was a brilliant nurse with a goal to become a nurse practitioner. Everyone was in awe of her beautiful hand-writing, especially the doctors when they read her nursing notes. She had long brown hair (below her waist) and she had a way of putting it all on top of her head with not a hair out of place on her nurses' cap..she wore the uniform proudly. Off-duty she was tons of fun and laughter. Her Mustang made many shopping trips to Boise! After a year, I was re-assigned overseas and we lost touch for several yrs. By then, Monica's career was on a fast-track...as the Nurse Corps recognized her immense leadership potential.  Fast forward to 1999...having already been at Eglin AFB Fl a couple mos. I was thrilled to learn Col Monica (now Figun) would be our new Hospital Commander. Working as a Squadron Comm/Chief Nurse for Monica was a career highlight. As a Commander, she was "the best of the best." The years hadn't changed her personality.....she was still the kindest, most caring and compassionate individual one could know. We laughed about going from our 20s to being in our 50s...and how we had met many personal and professional challenges since 1973.  One thing was certain....Monica loved her God, her family, and her country immensely . My heartfelt sympathy and prayers for her mom, husband, children, and grandchildren.

I also served under Col. Figun at Reese AFB.  I was an Individual Reservist there, and she welcomed me into the group and made me feel like a valued part of the unit.  I was privileged to serve with her.  My prayers are for God's peace to all who knew and loved her.

I had the pleasure of working for Col Figun at Reese AFB.  She was the type of natural leader who brought the best out of everyone.  Her kind yet firm style is one I'll always remember and respect.  She was a true officer, lady, friend, and professional who will be greatly missed.

I wish I could be here tonight to deliver this in person, but hope to meet many of you 
tomorrow [at the Memorial Service].  There are just too many words for a brief tribute to Monica.  I could literally write a book about this incredible woman who deeply touched my life on so many levels. I met Monica in the early 1990s when she came to Reese Air Force Base as the Chief Nurse Executive and I was to be her assistant.  Within minutes after her arrival, I knew life was going to be great. As I escorted her around the medical facility I observed her leadership skills were like none other.  She was an amazing mentor, which made me a better officer.  She was someone I aspired to be like.  Everyone respected and even loved Colonel Figun.  She soon became a close friend.  Then as we ended up being diagnosed with breast cancer five months apart, our friendship grew to a sisterly bond.  I loved her so much and still do.  One day I know I will hug her once again under much better circumstances.  Before I close, there are so many touching memories:  our love for coffee, shopping, dishes, more shopping, clothes, more shopping, and most importantly family and friendships.  How blessed I was to have her in my life.

She was truly one of the most gentle, kind and truly lovely people I have ever met....

It was an honor to know her.

Monica was a extraordinary person.  Most people can not comprehend or will never know the depth of her kindness, selflessness and humanitarianism.  Since her illness and death I have come to know Monica better by all the different things that people have said that she did for them, not to mention what she has done for me.  The acts of kindness were done very privately and unassuming.  Her depth of faith and spiritualism was awe inspiring.   The Nursing Community has suffered a great lost. Monica was the ideal officer & commander, esteemed as a role model by many. She could be tough as nails without losing her femininity or sense of humor. Her impact on nursing and the Air Force is immense. We'll all miss her.  Condolences to the family.

I only met Monica a few times while visiting my sister Debi Keyes in Texas. She was a wonderful and kind person. The last time I was in Austin volunteering at the Heart Hospital, she kept asking me if there was anything I needed or wanted.Like all other staff members, She even got my sister and I mixed up, since we look a like. Monica said she didnt know who was who from behind. It was a privilage to work around her.
She will be extremly  missed by everyone.

Colonel Figun was my commander at Reese AFB and truly the best commander of my AF career. She was always concerned about other people and knew how to have fun. I remember how she loved rhubarb pie and absolutely hated chocolate covered cherries. Her handwriting was as beautifully unique as her personality.

Colonel Monica Figun was a true friend and outstanding leader as my Commander of the 64th Medical Group ( hospital ) at Reese Air Force in Lubbock Texas.  She was a top-notch, human being of the first order and brightened everyone's life that she came into contact with.  She will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.  I will certainly miss her A LOT!!!!!    God Bless You Monica.

Monica will always remain in our hearts.  As her ordeal progressed, her warmth and smile endured.  We will always treasure her friendship and want her family to know how much she touched our lives.

I was honored to work with Monica at the local austin hospital where she worked as Vice President of Clinical Services. She was a unique leader; kind, compassionate to all, and a true nurse advocate.  I once shared with her that there should be a Monica Figun Nurse Manager Model, since she would be in scrubs one day, working next to us, and the next day in a suit, performing Adminitrative duties. She moved like the wind. I shall always cherish the time she was with us.
