Paul Alfred Castiglione was born to Vito Fortunato and Martha Jean Sanders Castiglione in San Antonio, TX, on May 16,1948. He passed from his earthly life on May 25, 2025 after a valiant 2-year battle with esophageal cancer.
Paul grew up in San Antonio. Some of his fondest childhood memories were of family camping trips to the coast. He graduated with honors from Burbank High School in 1966. While at Burbank, he served as state president of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), traveling throughout TX, meeting with the many district associations and representing the state of Texas at the National Meeting VICA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. His experiences began to develop his gift of public speaking.
After high school graduation he put himself through the University of Texas at Austin with scholarships and summer internships in the oilfield. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked every summer of college for Pan American Petroleum, and took a full-time job with them after graduating from UT. Pan American Petroleum became Amoco which merged with BP in 1998. He spent 33 years with the company that he went to work for right out of college, retiring at age 55. He was highly respected for his reservoir engineering and reservoir simulation skills.
While working in Odessa, TX, during his college summers, he met Kathy Black, whom he married in 1969. They celebrated 55 years of marriage on December 22, 2024. They had 2 children and 6 grandchildren.
Paul and Kathy bought a house in Blue Lake Estates in 2001 and retired there. Paul was involved in many activities in Blue Lake serving as Parks Director and President of the BLEPOA. He also served on the BLGC Board of Directors as President. He was a member of the Blue Lake Men’s Golf Association. He especially enjoyed the Men’s Nine Holer Group. He was involved in the Men’s Bible Study which met at Blue Lake for many years.
Paul loved the LORD and was active wherever he attended church including the Marble Falls Church of Christ where he had worshipped for the last 20 years. He served as elder in Marble Falls Church of Christ; S. Fulton Church of Christ, Denver; Little York Church of Christ, Houston. Paul was a very gifted teacher and public speaker, often preaching in the small congregations in and around Houston (Evergreen, Cleveland, Huntsville, Montague, Bellaire). He also often filled the pulpit in his home congregation when the full-time preacher was away. He had taught Bible classes at Vandeveer St. Church of Christ in Burnet and at Marble Falls Church of Christ, respectively. He loved children whether babies or teenagers. A primary goal of his wherever he worshipped was that the young people have every opportunity to learn about Jesus and to make friends with others their age by attending church camps, youth meetings, etc. Paul would want all glory to go to God for his opportunities to serve.
Beyond serving the Lord, Paul enjoyed tinkering, golfing and fishing. Most important to him was his family. He loved Kathy and strongly desired to be there for her as long as he could. Papa (as he was affectionately known) adored his grandchildren; they brought out his inner child every time he was around them.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stephen, sister-in-law Sue Farrell, and grandson Benjamin McKenzie. Paul is survived by his wife Kathy, son Mark (Kristelle), daughter Amy McKenzie, granddaughter Jordan McKenzie Facchini (Josiah), grandson Reagan Castiglione, granddaughter Bethanne Castiglione, granddaughter Justice McKenzie, granddaughter Jessica McKenzie, granddaughter Jaye McKenzie, brother Charles Farrell, sister Kathryn Dodson (Edgar), sister Anna Castiglione, several nieces and nephews.
