

Robert Williams (Bob) Hunter, age 91, was born to Bess Williams and William Benjamin Hunter in Nashville, TN, on August 25, 1930, and passed to life eternal, at home in Marble Falls, TX, on December 17, 2021.
Bob was raised in Midland, TX and graduated from Midland High School in 1948, where Bob and Helen Caffey were classmates and sweethearts. Bob and Helen married in 1950 in the First Methodist Church in Midland, TX. Bob attended McMurray College in Abilene, TX from 1949-1953. While in Abilene, he served 4 years in the USMC Reserves during the Korean War.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen, and three children: Helen Cecilia Grayson (Bill) of Garland, TX, Katherine Sue Weitzel of Phoenix, AZ and James Daniel Hunter of Marble Falls, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jennifer Rodehaver (Scott) of Tulsa, OK, James Grayson (Jennifer) of Buda, TX, Kelly Abecassis (David) of Las Vegas, NV and Ryan Weitzel (Kaila) of Vancouver, BC; 14 great-grandchildren; and nephews Paul and Ralph Bishop, Stanley Dalley, and niece Charlsye Szymanski. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hobbs (L.C.) of Midland, TX and Peggy Ferry (Bob) of Bedford, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Bob in death were his parents and his two brothers, W.B. Hunter Jr. and James Gernade Hunter.
Bob spent most of his working life in the oil business, working for Hughes Tool, then Drillco and finally in Shell Oil’s geophysical division for the last 30 years (22 years in Houston), retiring in 1990. He also enjoyed working nights as a certified lab technician at Midland Memorial Hospital. After retiring, Bob and Helen moved in 1991 from big city Houston to small town Marble Falls to start the next chapter of their lives.
Bob was a Mason for 65 years (also Eastern Star for 28 years), serving in every office through the years, including Worshipful Master of the Blazing Star Lodge in Marble Falls in 1995 and 1996. Bob was also a member of the Burnet Commandery No. 113, Knights Templar. He enjoyed singing barbershop harmony and was a past member of the Hill Country Blenders. Bob, along with Helen, was a charter member of the board of directors of Highland Lakes Habitat for Humanity and spent many years helping build homes throughout Burnet County.
Very active at First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls, Bob served for many years as Treasurer and also as Chair of the Finance Committee during the rebuilding of the church following the 1995 fire that destroyed the campus. A member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Bob also sang in the church choir and faithfully supported all of the outreach ministries of the church. Bob was active in Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministry, which is where he often said he found his true calling. Many people of all walks of life found their way to Jesus through Bob’s testimony and his example.
A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr, Marble Falls, TX 78654. Memorials may be directed to: the Helping Fund at First United Methodist Church; or to Highland Lakes Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1406, Marble Falls TX; or to the charity of your choice.
Bob lived a full and meaningful life and he will be missed by all of his family and friends. We have all been blessed by his example of generosity, service to others and devotion to Christ. We know that he has now been fully restored to everlasting life in the arms of his Savior.
