August 2, 1936- March 12, 2026
Shirley was born August 2, 1936 in Denton County to Lonnie and Pauline Moseley. She grew up on a farm near Green Valley, Texas and learned from an early age the importance of hard work as she and her siblings did their fair share of picking cotton. Shirley attended Sanger schools until high school, when her family moved to Carrollton. She graduated a year early from Carrollton High School in 1953.
On June 20, 1953, Shirley married Howard Thompson, of Sanger. Shirley and Howard worked and raised their family in Carrollton. They were devoted to each other and to their three children, attending many ballgames, choir concerts, and church youth performances. On Saturday nights, they enjoyed playing cards with their friends and making homemade ice cream.
Howard died in 1988. Three years later, Shirley married Howard’s older brother, Joe, who was fondly referred to as “Uncle Dad” by her children. Joe died in 1998.
Shirley worked for over 20 years at Carrollton Insurance Agency, before becoming the pastor’s secretary at First Baptist Church, Carrollton in 1988. After retirement she enjoyed singing in the choir and traveling with the Senior adults at FBCC. She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, spending time with her girlfriends, and staying active.
Shirley was a believer in Jesus and in August 1956 was baptized at First Baptist Church of Carrollton, where she was a faithful member. Her faith and her loving family and friends sustained her through the loss of two husbands and through her personal journey with cancer.
She will be remembered for her smile and laughter and her devotion to her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Pauline Moseley, her husbands Howard Thompson and Joe Thompson, her sisters Joy Burgoon and Peggy Moseley, and her daughter-in-law Jimmy Ann Thompson. She is survived by her brother, Bobby Moseley of Sherman and her children Todd (Pat) Thompson of Lewisville, Teala (Rick) Welch of Marble Falls, and Tim (Shelby) Thompson of Coppell, her five grandchildren Jason (Six) Welch, Avery (Carol) Thompson, Lindsey (Jim) Cerkovnik, Grace Pearson-Thompson, and Ward Pearson-Thompson, step-grandchildren Briella, Nico, and Dominic Antoline and her five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jake, and Haley Welch, and Ruth and Hank Cerkovnik and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her.
The family would like to thank the Arbor House Assisted Living and Memory Care of Marble Falls and Dr. Sixian Welch for the best of loving care in her final days.
Services will be held for Shirley on April 6, 2026 at First Baptist Church at the Fields, Carrollton Texas at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery in Carrollton.
