Sylvia Carlene Willis passed from this life at the age of 65 on April 1, 2015. She was born November 25, 1949, to Charles Lynn and Bettye Ruth (Flynt) Willis in Arlington, Texas. Carlene graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1968 and attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, majoring in art.
She loved sports, especially basketball and softball, and said that she wanted to thank her fellow basketball teammates at Marble Falls High School for “the best years of my youth!” She also played softball for many years as an adult, and when she learned of her illness, she remarked, “God must need a good 1st baseman!” Carlene won the most valuable player in softball many times.
Another hobby for many years was dirt bike racing and she won many championship titles in this sport.
Carlene worked in printing, owned an office supply store in Marble Falls for several years, was employed for 13 years with Dean Word, and also worked for Willis Environmental Engineering just before her death. She volunteered for Marble Falls Emergency Medical Services for 10 years as an ambulance driver, ambulance trainer, and as a skills teacher for the ECA and EMT classes.
“I want to assure my family and friends,” she said recently, “that I will be okay and I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.” Carlene also wanted to thank all the Health Care givers that helped her along her journey.
Survivors include her parents Lynn and Betty Willis of Marble Falls, her siblings Larry Willis (JoAnna) of Lubbock, Lynda Plumlee (Tony) of Marble Falls, and Darrell Willis of Marble Falls, her niece Lindsey Willis Moss (Tanner) of Anna, her nephews Corey Plumlee of Austin, Christopher Willis (Amy) of Abilene, and Wade Willis of Llano, her aunts Thelma Ragland of Abilene, Lena Faye McCarter of Arlington, Betty Willis of Austin, and Patricia Flynt of Arlington, and two great nieces, Evangeline (Eve) Willis and Juliette Willis, both of Abilene.
