Wilma was born on March 16, 1927 in Belle Plaine, Kansas, to Lettie and Charlie Koger. She and her family moved to Electra, Texas, at 12 years of age. She graduated from Electra High School in 1944 and attended Texas Tech University, majoring in Commercial Art.
She was well respected as a draftsman and worked for several companies, including Magnolia Petroleum Company, where she met Charles. Married on April 17, 1954, they began a long and loving life together. Charles’ job with Mobil Oil Corporation took them to a wide range of locations, including stops in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and Alaska. After seven years in Anchorage, they returned to Texas for three years before relocating to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From there, Mobil took them to Dallas and back to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Charles’ final stop in his career.
Charles and Wilma purchased a lot and planned their retirement to Horseshoe Bay in late 1979, with Wilma personally designing and overseeing construction of their retirement home. They moved to Horseshoe Bay permanently in 1986, and began enjoying the wonderful fellowship at the Church at Horseshoe Bay and the delightful friends at the Club. Wilma and Charles served at the Church as greeters for many years.
Wilma was a gifted artist and served as a member of the Highland Arts Guild and volunteer at the Gallery in Marble Falls, where many of her paintings were displayed and sold. She was also an enthusiastic golfer and loved collecting rocks, feeding her birds and watching her favorite, a great blue heron, at the small pond just behind her house.
Wilma is survived by her husband Charles Woodruff, her son Ty Woodruff and wife Shannon, son Rod Woodruff and wife Kirsten, grandson Jamie and her niece Sheila Sutton and nephew Stan Staley.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Church at Horseshoe Bay on Friday, August 1, at 11:00AM and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Capital of Texas Chapter, 3520 Executive Center Drive, Suite 140, Austin, TX 78731, or the Fredericksburg Hill Country Memorial Hospice, 808 Reuben Street, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. The family thanks the compassionate staff at the Hospice, as well as Pam Basam, Leslie Preston, Valerie Chaffer, Melissa Rosales and Cassie Dever for the wonderful care provided to both Wilma and Charles over the last few months.
