Allan R. Dennison, 79, of Marco Island, Florida, passed away quietly on April 20, 2026, at his residence. Born on October 7, 1946, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Allan lived a life defined by integrity, humility, deep devotion to family, and a genuine interest in the lives of others.
He was the son of the late Malcolm and Alice Dennison and the beloved brother of the late Glenn and David Dennison. Allan was the loving husband of the late Sandra L. “Sandy” Dennison, his best friend and the love of his life.
Allan is survived by his sons, Mark Dennison and his wife Susan of West Chicago, Illinois, and Adam Dennison and his wife Leanne of Melrose, Massachusetts. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Collin, Abigail, James, and Sara. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and their husbands, along with many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.
A proud Western Pennsylvanian, Allan grew up rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, passions that stayed with him throughout his life. Through hard work and determination, he put himself through Penn State University and remained a loyal Nittany Lion fan ever after. Following college, he served in the Army National Guard.
In 1967, Allan married Sandra L. Calhoun. Together they built a life centered around family, raising two sons and giving them a childhood filled with freedom, warmth, and lasting memories. Those years brought “come home when the streetlights are on” evenings and long summer vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Allan was always ready to toss a ball, take a swim in the ocean, or simply walk the beach with Sandy, moments he treasured deeply.
Professionally, Allan proudly referred to himself as a “banker.” His career began at Northwest Savings Bank in Oil City, Pennsylvania, and continued at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh; Huntington Bank in Cleveland; Swineford National Bank in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and concluded at AmeriServ Financial in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was respected for blending large firm banking expertise with a hometown, personal approach. Colleagues and customers alike admired his honesty and integrity as a leader, as well as his humility, warmth, and sense of humor as a friend.
Allan and Sandy shared a love for travel, especially to the Caribbean, and ultimately fulfilled their dream of settling part time in Marco Island, Florida. There, they found their happy place, quietly enjoying time together, hosting family and friends when possible, and forming close friendships with neighbors and fellow snowbirds, all while maintaining the private lifestyle they valued.
In his later years, Allan took immense pride in his grandchildren and their accomplishments, activities, education, and growth into young adults. He was always available to offer advice to his sons when asked, something they did often, or simply to talk sports and life. True to his nature, Allan was always more interested in what others were doing than talking about himself. That quiet attentiveness and gracious curiosity is a lesson that those who loved him will carry forward.
Allan R. Dennison will be deeply missed and fondly remembered
