She was born November 14th, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN to Kathryn Lebakken and was adopted by Alvin and Helen (Alyda) Hamann.
As a young child, she lived in Minneapolis, MN; moved to Ewen, MI where she graduated high school. After high school, she moved to Houghton/Hancock, MI. She had three children Debbie, Greg, and Doug. Greg died as an infant (1968). In 1974, she took the hand of her forever partner Edward Griffin in marriage.
In her early days, Audrey worked as a switchboard operator at MTU and later owned the Pizzeria in downtown Houghton. From 1971 to 1982, she worked at D&N Savings and Loan where she began her career in Customer Service and ended in Loan Services.
While living in the UP of Michigan, she enjoyed playing the piano and organ at church, boating around Lake Superior, downhill skiing, playing racquetball, and attending MTU hockey games.
In 1982, the family moved to Bay City, MI. She started working at Chemical Bank in Midland in 1982 as a teller and retired 2012 as AVP Loan Services Manager. Shortly after moving to Bay City, she noticed an ad for a church in need of an organist. In 1982, she started playing the organ and piano at Christ United Methodist Church. Audrey found lifelong friends at her church that made Bay City her home. In later years, they moved to Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was one of the organists.
In Bay City, she worked with high school students playing the piano for their performances. They joined a gourmet-cooking club and continued boating but now in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.
In 2000, she became a grandmother for the first time when Megan was born. She had to wait 20 years for her first grandson, Wade and a year later her second grandson, Troy was born.
In 2015, Audrey & Edward moved to Naples, FL full time. They were never going to live in Florida but after having visited, they fell in love with Paradise. They started at Falling Waters Beach Resort and shortly realized that Paradise was to be their permanent home. It was at this point they built their dream house in Fiddler’s Creek, where they met many Florida friends and later joined Lely Presbyterian Church.
Over the years, she added friends to her list of family. Audrey was not only, well respected but also loved by all who knew her. Audrey will be missed by all but will remain in our hearts forever.
