Jean M. Clarke ( nee Miles) AKA “ Mom” to many who loved her. Born December 11,1926 in Crisfield, Maryland, Jean was a member of the “Greatest Generation”. Formerly of Lutherville, Maryland and Ocean City, Maryland, Jean resided in Marco Island, Florida until her death on February 13,2020.

Daughter of the late Mary Belle and F. Stewart Miles. Sister of the late Marilyn Spies. Devoted wife of the late Alan M. Clarke to whom she was married for 49 years. Loving mother of Barbara Clarke Gambrill and Richard A. Clarke. Beloved mother-in-law of Diana Clarke and the late Richard Gambrill.

Dear Grandmother of Bryan Gambrill (Jennifer), Kevin Gambrill (Tracy), Richard Clarke, Jr. (Jennifer) and Allison Gentile (Andrew). Also survived by 7 of the worlds most beautiful great - grandchildren. Jean leaves behind many friends and family who will miss her greatly.

Jean was an incredible homemaker whose hobbies included politics; she would volunteer at the polls on Election Day and also with the Maryland Republican Party. Some of her other interests included, extensive travel with Alan, her friends and family. She was an amazing and talented artist, specializing in florals and seascape scenes. Never one to sit and let the world go by Jean kept busy gardening and arranging her flowers into beautiful centerpieces, playing golf, having 2 holes in one! bocce, croquet, her chair balance classes and of course Happy Hour. Spending time with family and friends topped her list of a perfect day. She loved entertaining and always had a place at her table for anyone who wanted to join in.

Jean loved our President and would be honored if you would consider supporting conservative policies. We will be celebrating her life at a funeral mass on Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Marco Island at 10am. Luncheon will follow immediately at Hideaway Beach Club where we will continue celebrating a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to either the Salvation Army or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

We are with the Clarke family in spirit, as you lay your beloved Mother Jean to rest. She was a beautiful person, inside and out, and it was truly an honor to have known her. Steve and I have many fond memories of her, usually at happy family occasions, or as guests at her Ocean City and Marco Island beach homes. She always welcomed us with open arms! Love, Chris and Steve

Those that had the pleasure of meeting Jean Clarke, should know that she redefined what is meant to live an 'extraordinary' life, in that she took the time to know us, know about our lives, know about what makes all of her friends and family tick. In this way, Jean Clarke found a permanent place into all of our hearts and minds, and can never, nor will ever, be replaced. Whether it’s one of her watercolor works of art, one of her decorative lamps (I have one - an old Tullamore Dew bottle turned into a table lamp!), or simply a fond memory (creamed chipped beef anyone?), everyday reminders of her wit, spirit, and love remain with us. Now and always, I will miss my mom-mom Jean. K

I can not think of Jean without a smile on my face. She had this magic of making you feel like her best friend. Her quick smile and sparkly blue eyes always made you feel like family. She was one of a kind.
Love you all ways,

PS: I'm voting for Trump!

This is awkward to type, but feel the need to share...
I did not know this remarkable woman but so wish I had! I ended up on this page by accident: doing a random search of events in and around Marco Island. Lately things in my life are haywire and starting to wear me down. After reading her brief bio and a few of the awesome comments left by others reflecting on her character and how she touched their lives..it was like a shot in the arm (or kick in the pants!) A reminder for me to get back to living the life I want and loving every minute of it!! As I stated at the start I wish to goodness I would have known this woman but I am so thankful to have been inspired by her today- even after death. I apologize if this is an intrusion I almost did not take the time to type this, but felt I needed to share this totally random but awesome accident. The world is a little bit brighter place because of people like her!

Jean was such a very special and elegant lady we are so blessed to have known. She was always upbeat and funny and she loved her Hideaway home, Club and friends so much. She was always the belle of whatever get together there was. Jean had a beautiful personality and soul. She will be fondly remembered. We continue to be blessed by our friendship with her daughter Barbara.

Jean Clarke was the first person I met at St Marks. Because of her incredible welcome, I have attended there for 10 years. She always had a cheerful greeting, a warm smile, and a funny story. I miss her.

With eyes that sparkled from her life-loving spirit, Jean's smile lit up every room she entered. Well-read and well-travelled, Jean personified innate goodness.
Jean enjoyed good food shared with her loving family and dedicated friends, while engaging in great conversation… and what GREAT, spirited & passionate conversations were had! With southern charm this refined lady’s opinions were refreshingly forthright and unabashed.
Jean would have loved the ‘Trumpocrat’ label - especially because it was coined by a Dem! She harbored not hate. Rather Jean loved the banter, the argument, the spin, the stories and the truth.
The essence of love and laughter, Jean was generous to the core. A woman of integrity and positivity, this spirited and lively lady’s energy and passion for life inspired all who met her.
We will miss her for always. Our love and prayers are with you Richard, Diana, Barbara & family…
