Edward D. Praslick

Edward D. Praslick, a devoted husband, proud uncle, steadfast man of faith, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer and pneumonia at the age of 77.

A man of quiet strength and dry wit, Ed was known for his meticulous nature, unwavering integrity, and quick witted humor that could lift spirits in even the toughest moments.

Ed was born on May 19, 1948 in Yonkers, New York, to Anne Schur Praslick and Edward Praslick. Edward grew up in Yonkers with his loving sisters Barbara Praslick McGuire and Loretta Praslick Marchewka. Edward attended Saunders Technical Institute High School and later went on to SUNY Oswego and received his bachelors of science in Mechanical Engineering.

His greatest pride was his family. Ed’s greatest love of his life was Gail Fitzpatrick Praslick. Gail and Ed married in October 1972. He was a devoted husband to Gail, with whom he shared a deep and loving bond built on faith and partnership and a lot of fun. Though he had no children of his own, he played a cherished and enduring role in the lives of his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom adored him and will forever carry his memory in their hearts. There will NEVER be another like “Uncle Big Ed”.

Ed and Gail first lived in New York City as newlyweds before moving to New Jersey and making their home in Middletown, while summering and spending weekends in Lavallette and Ortley Beach.

Eventually, Ed and Gail became snowbirds and split their time between Ortley Beach, NJ and Marco Island, Florida, where together they enjoyed countless hours on the water, or poolside, surrounded by family, friends and sunshine.

An avid boater and fisherman, Ed spent countless hours navigating both sea and shore, finding solace and adventure in the rhythm of the tides. He was a man who could show you how to cast a line, tie the perfect knot, tell a story with a twinkle in his eye, and clean a boat with the precision of a surgeon.

A true car enthusiast, nothing quite compared to his orange corvette, quite representative of his bold spirit and attention to detail.

A devout Catholic, Ed’s faith guided his life and gave him peace in his final days. He faced his illness with grace, strength, and a sense of humor that never wavered.

Ed will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave so freely, the laughter he shared, and the steady presence he offered to all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved Gail, his sister Barbara, his sister Loretta and her husband Rod, sister-in-law Eileen Fitzpatrick, and a very loving extended family filled with nieces and nephews from New Jersey to North Carolina to Kansas to New York and Connecticut.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Catharine’s Church in Seaside Park, New Jersey on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00am and at San Marco Catholic Church in Marco Island, Florida on January 17, 2026 at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ed’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
