FREDERICK EDMUND WRIGHT, JR., was born to Inez Volker and Frederick E. Wright in Newport, NY, on April 4,1944. He was called home on January 8, 2026, at the age of 81. Rick, as we affectionately called him, was faithful and devoted in his personal life and professional career. Rick served in the United States Army beginning in 1971. He was stationed in Fort Polk, LA, and was honorably discharged in 1977.
Rick graduated with a Doctorate Degree in Dental Surgery from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. He had a private Orthodontic practice for several decades in Somerville, NJ. As an accomplished and compassionate doctor, Rick gave children, adults and the handicapped community, truly magnificent smiles. Most of Dr. Wright’s career was spent with his beloved canine pets, who joined him daily at the office.
Rick shared a loving marriage with Marlys Wright and his blended family. Their Catholic faith was an integral part of their daily life. Marlys and Rick traveled extensively, enjoyed dining out, boating, the beach, and the theatre. Rick was an avid animal lover, which he shared with his daughter, Lisa, in her early love of horses and present love of all animals. Rick also loved skiing out West with Elke and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being called the affectionate name of "Bonus Dad" by some of Marlys's children. He especially loved having family and friends come visit. He was always eager to play card games or board games, which was yet another fun-filled way to add to the special time visiting Marco Island. Even with his busy, exciting schedule as a retiree, Rick eagerly tuned into the stock market daily to which he had a keen interest.
Rick and Marlys shared a beautiful family: Lisa (Ray), Hamilton, NJ, Elke, Manasquan, NJ, Mary, Marco Is., FL, Melody (Stephen), Newtown, PA, and Steven (Somi), Mesa, AZ. His legacy extends to his beloved eight grandchildren, Elena, Shea, Gianni, Luke, Sam, Craig, Michael and Ashley, as well as five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a niece Renee and three nephews, Marc, Scott, and Christopher. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith.
Rick’s memory will be deeply cherished by his family and friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime. His beautiful blue eyes, and kind and loving spirit will be missed, by everyone who was blessed to have known him.
