

Gary was born in Holland, MI to the late Melvin and Martha Brandt on May 11, 1954.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy; children Michael, Daniel (Mica) and Melissa Brandt. Grandchildren include Madison, Taylor, Logan and Parker Brandt. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Lola.
Siblings include Gregory Brandt (Jenny), Cynthia Pfingst (Louis), Crystal Brandt, Marvin Brandt, and the late Melvin Brandt. He is also survived by his stepfather, James Spencer, in-laws Jane Langer, Susan and Stephen Beranek and Gary and Kay Langer along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary joined the Navy after graduating from high school and served as a machinist mate, reaching the rank of E-5. After leaving the Navy, he was hired by his lifelong friend and mentor, Bob Walker, at MHI as a hydraulic helper. During his 32-plus years with MHI, Gary served as a lead man and foreman, project manager, estimating manager and contracting officer. He became Vice President of Operations and Sales. In 1999, MHI became an employee-owned company. Gary was promoted to President and CEO. In 2008, MHI merged with Tecnico Corp., to form American Maritime Holdings (AMH). Gary then became President of AMH. He retired in 2013. He was a member of many professional groups. He was also a member of Broad Bay Country Club and Williamsburg Golf Club.
Gary was a faithful member of Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA. He was a true disciple of the Lord and demonstrated his faith both home and overseas. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Private burial took place in Marco Island, Florida and a Celebration of Life will take place at Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA, at a later date. Gary believed in helping the less fortunate. Donations can be made to your favorite charity.
