Jerry Ronald Miller

Jerry was born in 1939 to Lois J. Miller and Fred Miller, Jr. of Honaker, Virginia. Moving shortly thereafter to Mt. Vernon, Ohio, he attended Mt. Vernon High School where he was a coveted basketball all-star. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to a field hospital of the Eighth Evacuation Unit in Landstuhl, Germany where he met his future wife, Mary Sandra “Sandy” Lewis. After moving back to the states, they married on August 3, 1963 in Alexandria, Virginia. Jerry went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation at their headquarters in Washington, D.C. as a Forensic Photographic Specialist. Considered one of the most talented in his field, he traveled in and out of the United States working high-profile cases, including the John F. Kennedy assassination, ultimately contributing to the Warren Commission Report presented in 1964 to former President Lyndon B. Johnson. He ended his career instructing FBI Agents and Police Officers for 12 years at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. With more than 100 written commendations and multiple awards for his work, including personal letters of accolade from J. Edgar Hoover, Jerry retired in 1986. Jerry and Sandy built their dream waterfront home on Marco Island, Florida, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, frequent trips to the Keys to snorkel & dive, and restoring & showing his classic 1962 corvette convertible. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, his parents, and his sister, Karen Miller Keenan of St. Petersburg, Florida. He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Kerri Miller Herrity, Leslie Miller Davis & Robert Davis, Mark Miller & Amy Lappin Miller, and his three grandchildren and their spouses: Haley Davis, Dalton Herrity, and Riley Davis Fischer & Aidan Fischer. Jerry was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, a political advocate for causes he believed in, and a master at DIY projects. With a “Capraesque” quality, Jerry carried an old-fashioned sense of personal responsibility, of government by and for the people, and a work-hard/play-hard drive. Doing things with intention and excellence was important to him, and that will live on through his family as part of his legacy.
