JONES, Lewis E. “Lew,” passed away peacefully on June 18, 2014 at his home in Naples, Fla. Lew is survived by his beloved wife, Anne, of nearly 61 years. He was the dear father of Lou Anne Nabhan (Douglas) of Richmond, Va.; Sandra Lee Brill (Terry) of State College, Penn.; David Michael Jones of Marion, Ind.; and the late and dearly loved Brian Douglas Jones; grandfather (“Papa Lew”) of Andrew Lee Brill and Brian Adam Brill; brother of the late and dearly loved Dr. David G. “Doc” Jones (Sandra Blossom); uncle of Doc’s children, Bruce Lewis “Woody” Jones of Anderson, Ind. and Tami Bakas (James) of Carmel, Ind.; brother-in-law of the late Margaret Downs (Joe) of Miami, Fla., Jeanne Brown (Walter) of Melrose, Mass., Carl Jacobson (Regina) of Barnstable, Mass.; and Lois Johnson of St. Augustine, Fla.; and uncle and great uncle to many cherished nieces and nephews. Lew was born on May 2, 1928 in Anderson, Ind., where he was a lifelong resident until his retirement from his law practice in 1993. He was the son of George Lewis Jones and Mildred Carpenter Jones. Lew graduated from Anderson High School in 1946, from Indiana University in 1950 and from Boston College Law School in 1953. Lew honorably served active duty in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant and Judge Advocate General. While in Boston, he met the love of his life, Anne. They married in Boston in 1953 and moved to Indiana where they raised their family of four. He received an appointment to West Point after law school, but chose instead to return home to Anderson and start his law practice. He served as a staff attorney for the Indiana State Legislature from 1955 to 1957, as Probate Commissioner of Madison County and as Attorney for the Madison County Commissioner. He was active in the Republican Party of Madison County and a member of the Anderson Country Club. Lew enjoyed flying his Cessna airplane, boating, fishing and travel, especially family vacations. Most of all, Lew loved being with his family and around his home. He will be dearly missed. Visitation is Tuesday, June 24, 4-6 p.m., Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, Marco Island, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, June 25, 10 a.m., San Marco Catholic Church, Marco Island. Graveside Blessing and Military Rites will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson, Ind., date to be announced soon.
