
Anthony (Tony) John Urbano, 88, of Sandy Springs, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 4th. Tony was born in Portland, Maine on January 3rd, 1938, to Joseph and Josephine Urbano. He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Sandi, of nearly 60 years. He spent his childhood years roaming the streets of Portland and spending his summers in Old Orchard Beach living and working at the family Italian Restaurant, Napoli. Always the good student, he graduated from Deering High School in 1955. Though he received an appointment to West Point, he chose to attend The University of Maine where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduating, Tony began his active duty in the United States Army earning a rank of 1st Lieutenant. After active duty, Tony served in both the Army National Guard and the Reserves.
In the late 1950’s, a chance encounter at Scarborough Downs Racetrack in Scarborough Maine led to Tony meeting his one true love and future bride, Sandi. That encounter lasted nearly 60 years. Together they had many adventures and raised four children and had six grandchildren. They built a fantastic life built around love & respect for each other, a strong Catholic Faith, and a strong sense of community.
In the early 1970’s, Tony’s career with The Foxboro Company moved him to Greenville, South Carolina. It was there that Tony made numerous friends, including many golf buddies, that became lifelong friends. After several years in Taylors, he again moved the family, this time to Marietta, GA where he remained until recently. He was an active member for over 40 years at Indian Hills Country Club where he played golf nearly every weekend and spent many Friday nights at the club Happy Hour socializing with his large group of friends. Additionally, as a man of strong faith, he was an active member at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Tony is preceded in death by his beautiful bride Sandi, and his parents Joseph and Josephine Urbano. He is survived by his four children, Tony Urbano Jr. of Smyrna, GA, Joe Urbano (Liz) of Sarasota FL, Cheryl DiDuro (Matt), of Marietta GA and Mark Urbano (Donna) of Brookhaven, Georgia. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Kristina Urbano, Erik Urbano, Isabella DiDuro Hassouna, Emma DiDuro, Annalia DiDuro, and Francesca Urbano.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 31st at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3401 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta GA 30368 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow in Columbus Hall.
