Archie Desmond Yawn, Sr., 88, passed away October 14, 2014, in the memory care unit at Sunrise Senior Living in Marietta, GA after a struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Archie was born September 12, 1926, in Charleston, SC to the late Cotis Cortez and Hattie Clyde Yawn. Archie served three years in the Navy and then devoted his life to the airline industry. Archie was a founding employee of Southern Airways in 1949 (which later became North Central, Republic, Northwest and Delta) and spent 47 years with the airlines in public relations and government affairs before retiring in 1996.
Archie is survived by four children; Des Yawn (and Mary) of Marietta, GA, Pat Hammond of Canton, GA, Michael Yawn of Marietta, GA and Marcus Ingram (and Ginny) of Palm Harbor, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
There will be a private memorial ceremony for the family at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
