Betty Gabriele Grove

Betty Gabriele Grove, 90, beloved wife of the late Benjamin D. Grove Sr. for 61 years, died on February 14, 2018. Born in Fairmont, WV to Costanzo and Michelena (Potesta) Gabriele, Betty earned an accounting degree at Fairmont State College & worked in her father’s shoe repair shop. She and Ben married in 1951 and moved to Maryland to follow Ben’s work on projects related to the US Space Program. There, Betty worked as an accountant in her children’s pediatrician’s office. In 1967 the family moved to Marietta where Betty substitute taught in the Cobb County school system prior to her longtime position as bookkeeper for Sprayberry High School. With her husband she was an active member of the Georgia Civil Air Patrol, St. Andrews Church and then John Knox Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered in their CASA after school program for children. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her husband to visit family in the US and abroad and to many locations with Civil Air Patrol. Betty was a very loving and caring person to all and was especially devoted to her family and children. She is survived by her son Benjamin D. Grove, Jr., and his wife Robin; daughters, Diana Grove, Connie Carey and her husband Steven, and Nancy Grove Alvarez; granddaughter Maddalena Alvarez and her father Bernardo Alvarez; and sister Leyna Gabriele. Visitation is Wednesday 4-7 pm February 21st at H.M. Patterson and Son-Canton Hill Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held at John Knox Presbyterian church on Thursday February 22nd at 10:30am, followed by burial at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive flowers, or those wishing to do so may make a donation in memory of Betty to John Knox Presbyterian Church.
