Born in Rowland, North Carolina on February 28, 1933, Betty Jean Thompson was the third of four daughters of Mary Alice and Archie Leon Thompson. On March 14, 1956, she married Frank Pallone of Long Branch, N. J. with whom she spent the rest of her life. They welcomed their daughter Mary Lynn (Dee) in 1957, son Ken in 1960 and son Greg in 1971.
The family moved from Charlotte, N.C. to Marietta, Georgia in 1974 where she provided a loving home and for a time, ran her own house cleaning service.
Betty Jean was well known for her famous lasagna and spaghetti, waking up early and cooking into the late afternoon. Her savory creations were a mainstay at her table for every family gathering.
She was also known for her soft linens, sweets cabinet, the warmth of her hugs, her infectious smile, the depth of her love for her pets and her devotion to the Christian faith. Though she never became a nurse, she used those natural talents to care for all of those around her.
Over the years she welcomed son-in-law, Bill Bladen (married to Dee), daughters-in-law Debbie Pallone (married to Ken), Katie Pallone (married to Greg), and grandson-in-law Brandon Owens (married to Ali). She was “Granny” to her grandchildren: Wes Bladen, Ali Bladen Owens and Brad Pallone and great-grandchildren Will Bladen, Madison Bladen, Madalee Owens and Ethan Owens. She was “Aunt Bet” to the McGirt, Sellers, and Aycock families in North and South Carolina and the Tallarico, Maletto and Pallone families in New Jersey and Florida.
She is also survived by her sisters Doris McGirt Webster and Mary Sellers.
She is preceded in death by her parents and loving sister, Frances Aycock.
Bet’s fulfilled desire was to serve God, family and community. In tribute, we commit to do the same. She has gone to be with Jesus. Her family and friends mourn the loss of her presence with them, but treasure the memories and celebrate her everlasting life.
