It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Wallace Maddox, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who peacefully left this world on December 24th, just in time to celebrate Christmas in Heaven.
David was born on January 23, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Buckhead. He spent most of his life in Atlanta, but early in his career he traveled and lived in various other states while working in computer software sales. While living in Washington D.C. in the 80’s, David met the love of his life Penny at a racquet club. Being from California, Penny was not easily impressed by his charming southern ways, but luckily his persistence and patience paid off and the two were married in 1982. For 40+ years their union was a partnership of love, laughter, and support. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and love. As a devoted father to his two children, Jennifer and Shawn, he took great pride in being an involved and supportive parent. He was always imparting wisdom, values, and a strong work ethic to his beloved children. David was over the moon when he finally became a grandfather and has been the best GranD for the last 5 years. Family was at the center of David's life, and he cherished every moment spent with both his immediate family and extended family.
In addition to being a family man, David was a true entrepreneur. He founded Tuxedo Mosquito Control and dedicated 20 years of his life to this business with a foundation on creating a more comfortable outdoor environment for his customers, while also providing the highest level of customer service and treating its employees as members of his own family. His legacy will live on as “The Godfather of Mosquito Control” and the family business that is now owned by his son in law.
David’s enthusiasm and zest for life were contagious, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of sharing in his company. He was known for his unwavering positivity and cheery greetings when answering the telephone. He was the brightest light to all that were in his life and his memory will live on through the words he quoted in a family blessing each day; may we be ever mindful of the needs and wants of others.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Henry and Alan. He is survived by his wife, Penny, their two children, Jennifer Pittman (Robert) and Shawn Maddox (Lindsey), his brother Phil and his (almost) 6 grandchildren, to whom he was GranD, Maddox, Wallace, Molly, Mary Emmett, Mason and baby Jackson on the way.
A Celebration of Life to share our favorite memories and stories, to laugh and cry and remember a wonderful man who will be greatly missed will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel at 2 PM.
The Maddox family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and support as they navigate life without David. Memories of David's kindness, generosity, and love will forever be etched in our hearts and may we all be ever mindful of the needs and wants of others.
