Dona Graf Cole, 86, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020. Dona was born in Atlanta and grew up as an only child before attending Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Virginia. After graduating with a fine arts degree, Dona returned to Atlanta for a career in advertising as a graphic designer. While working at McCann Marschalk, she met James Cole, the man who would become her beloved husband of 45 years.
Dona left advertising to raise two sons but continued to express her creativity in numerous mediums – primarily quilting. Many of Dona’s quilts gained awards and recognition at prestigious shows and exhibits, but the real reward for her was passing them to family and friends as treasured gifts.
Dona was an avid reader, adventure traveler, outsider art collector and animal lover. A three-time cancer and major stroke survivor, Dona beat them all with grace, grit and unwavering positivity. She was an inspiration, showing those around her how to find joy no matter the circumstances. Dona was the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
A private celebration of Dona’s life will be held when conditions are safe for everyone.
If you wish to make a donation in her honor, please consider the American Cancer Society or Good Mews Animal Foundation.
