Dorothy M Nichols

Dorothy M. Nichols went to her reward peacefully at her home in Marietta, GA on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023. She was born in Manchester, Connecticut on February 22nd, 1943, to Arthur and Theresa Bell. Upon graduating from Manchester High School, Dorothy went to work for Allegheny Airlines as a flight attendant. Her bright personality and beautiful smile got her the job despite being 2 inches too short for the position! While based in Pittsburgh, Dorothy met a dashing young Capital Airlines pilot and after a whirlwind romance of 2-weeks, she was engaged to Fred Nichols, Jr. from Swannanoa, North Carolina.

Dorothy and Fred were married on August 30th, 1963. Their first son, Brett, was born on August 29th, 1964, one day before their first wedding anniversary. Their second son, Anothy, was born on December 20th, 1965. The family settled in in Marietta, GA where Dorothy was active in the Indian Hills Country Club and made many lifelong friends. Dorothy was an avid reader and was very curious about all things spiritual. This led her to a focus on an Indian holy man named Sai Baba and she made numerous trips to India to further her studies.

Dorothy and Fred recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Truly a match made in heaven! Over the years, they had traveled the world together during the golden age of travel. Dorothy has a lifelong lover of animals. Our family is comforted to know that she was welcomed into heaven by her pets Taboo, Smokey, Penny, and Bella.

Dorothy was blessed to live long enough to see her work as a loving mother come to fruition as both her sons’ raised families with 3 strong granddaughters. She is survived by her husband, Fred, and sons Brett (wife Patty and daughter Olivia) and Anthony (wife Janet and daughters Gillian and Elleri), sisters Joan and Nancy Bell, and nephews/nieces David, Barry, Thomas, and Leslie Manna. Dorothy was a bright light in all our lives and never stopped being a loving wife, attentive mother, and dotting grandmother. She will be missed dearly but we are all grateful for our time with her.

A celebration of life memorial service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road Ne, Marietta, GA 30068. A committal service will occur Friday, October 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114.
