Emily Payne

A lifelong Georgian, Emily was born on January 29, 1928, to the late Shelby George Dutton and Nola Jane Green Dutton. She dedicated her professional life to serving others through her work in Psychological Services with the Cobb County Board of Education, from which she retired after many years of faithful service.

Outside of her career, Emily found joy in gardening and cherished spending time with her family. She was also a woman of deep faith and attended Sewell Mill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Braxton Coleman Payne, and her brother, George Dutton.

Emily is survived by her three children: David (Deborah) Payne, Richard Payne, and Susan P. (James) Vlass; her grandchildren: Matthew (Robyn) Payne, Melissa (Steve) Morris, Aaron (Olivia) Payne, and Jennifer (Freddie) Wolford; and seven great-grandchildren who brought her great pride and joy.

She will be layed to rest with her beloved husband, Braxton at 11:30 am, at Georgia National Cemetery on Monday, December 1, 2025.
