February 18, 1931 – July 21, 2024
Esterlene was born in Tennessee on February 18, 1931. She had a twin brother named Ernestine who she loved dearly. She loved reminiscing about her childhood. She spoke about working in the cotton fields, going to tent revivals by horse and wagon and the yearly July 4th celebration where Poppa’s goat stew was the highlight of the menu!
At the age of 19 she married her first love Benton David Jackson. The first to call her “momma” was Beverly Ann and Richard Alan. Several years later Benton was killed in a tragic accident, and she found herself alone with two small children. Life wasn’t easy for her and her small family, but she knew what she had to do, and she did it.
She worked as a seamstress at the Bernie Company, McLaren and Marietta Drapery making curtains. She also worked in a shirt factory sewing buttons on shirts. She boasts of being the fastest seamstress in the factory! During the 1980’s she worked at Murdock Elementary School in the lunchroom.
Years later, she met Martin Jackson (Jack) Hale and was remarried in August 1965. Jack had four sons, the youngest being John Daniel Hale who lived with him. Esterlene loved and raised Dan like one of her own. In September 1966 Darlene Michelle was born. She became a widow again in October 1992.
She spent her later years enjoying her family. She loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved shopping, hair and nail appointments, reading, crossword puzzles, watching Braves baseball and going out for lunch or dinner! She served the Lord for decades at Welcome Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA. When she moved to Powder Springs she joined First Baptist Church of Powder Springs.
Esterlene will be remembered for her resilience and strength. Her life was marked by her devotion to family and her faith. She leaves us with a legacy of love and peace knowing that she is now with her Heavenly Father.
She is survived by her children Beverly Stewart, Richard Jackson (Deborah Jackson), Dan Hale and Michelle Weekley (David Weekley). She has six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
