Geneva grew up on a farm near Lake City, South Carolina. In 1957, she won the coveted Ms. Tobacco Festival beauty contest.
In 1958, after graduating from Lake City High School, Geneva began attending Columbia Business School in Columbia, South Carolina. While in Columbia, she met her future husband Joe, who was working in Sears paying his way through The University of South Carolina.
After marrying in 1961, Geneva and Joe embarked on a wonderful life together living among other places, in Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, FL, and finally settling in Atlanta in 1976. They were married for sixty-one years prior to Joe’s death. Geneva’s engaging and loving personality is evidenced by the close friendships that endured for decades from each of these locations.
While Geneva worked many jobs over the years, she particularly enjoyed her time working as a Ray Ban rep and later for the Resolution Trust Corporation. However, Geneva’s primary calling was as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She loved her husband and two sons and devoted her life to caring for and supporting them. She also had an amazing dedication to both of her parents. She spent countless hours caring for each of them when their health declined later in life. Geneva had compassion beyond measure and constantly put the needs of others over herself.
She was an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for over four decades. Prior to her health declining, Geneva took an active role in various service projects at the Church.
She cherished the time that she had with her granddaughters and played an important role in molding them into the outstanding young women they are today. She also began a treasured family Christmas tradition of reading Bible verses to Kate & Kamryn on Christmas Eve.
It is hard to adequately recount the way Geneva touched so many lives. She was a loving, fun, caring, and remarkable person with a great sense of humor. She was a great daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an amazing cook and an impeccable dresser.
Finally, even down to the last months of her battle with Alzheimer’s, Geneva seldom complained and persisted with remarkable grace and dignity. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Kim), and Greg (Manda); grandchildren, Kamryn and Kate and extended family members and friends to cherish her memory.
