On November 26, 1935, George Anthony Nagel came into this world to the delight of his parents, Genevieve and Frank. From the beginning, George brought with him a calm and compassionate spirit that would touch everyone he met throughout his long and beautiful life.
George grew up in Lynbrook, Long Island in NY, alongside his brother, Jerry, where he developed his lifelong love of baseball and his natural gift for learning. His intellect and work ethic led him to a distinguished career with the Equitable Life Assurance Company in New York City. Over the decades, George’s loyalty and steady presence were hallmarks of his career, and his work friendships often extended to the golf course—where he mastered both business and his swing. His dedication ultimately allowed him to retire early, at the age of 54.
Through the years, George made homes in New York and Atlanta, sharing each chapter of his life with his devoted wife and best friend of 48 years, Karen. George was the beloved father of Peter, Jill, and Sarah, and later celebrated the joy of becoming a grandfather to Julia and Austin.
In retirement, George found deep contentment on the greens of Indian Hills Country Club in Marietta, Georgia, where he spent countless weekday mornings teeing off with a close-knit circle of friends. Those rounds of golf, filled with laughter and camaraderie, became some of his most cherished times.
Perhaps George’s most endearing trait was his genuine willingness to be there for anyone who wanted to talk. He had a steady, soothing, and compassionate presence that made every conversation feel meaningful and valued. George listened without judgment, offered words of encouragement and insight, and had a remarkable ability to make people feel lighter and more hopeful after speaking with him. His quiet wisdom and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
George also possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit that brightened any room. He loved all kinds of jokes and a good-natured roast, and he had a knack for remembering punchlines from just a few handwritten notes. His face lit up when laughter filled the room, and he delighted in seeing others smile. Sharing humor brought him great joy—it was one of the many ways he made the world around him warmer and happier.
After a long, rich, and gracious life, George Anthony Nagel has journeyed home to heaven, where he joins his beloved parents, Genevieve and Frank, and his brother, Jerry.
He is survived by his loving family—his beloved wife, Karen; son, Peter; daughters, Jill and Sarah; sisters-in-law, Randy, Marla and Laurie; brother-in-law, Kevin; son-in-law, Greg; daughter-in-law, Kristina; two treasured grandchildren, Julia and Austin; nieces, Regina, Nancy, Jacqueline, Melissa, Hayley, Chelsea, and nephews, David and Corey.
Though we will deeply miss our two-way conversations with George, we take comfort in knowing that he is still listening—encouraging us with the same warmth, faith, and humor that defined his time with us.
A Memorial Service celebrating George’s life will be held at 11:00AM ET on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3401 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068.
