John was a co-worker, friend and kindred spirit. I had the privilege of joining him whilst wetting a line in salt and fresh water which was customarily followed by wetting our whistles with a cold adult beverage and talking into the wee hours about work. We lodged at Wheeler, broke bread and pool que's in Muscle Shoals. We navigated boulders and highline wires at Wilson and dodged bridges and piers drifting down Pickwick. We down-lined for Snapper, Grouper and Trigger fish in the Gulf and closed down beach-front watering holes from Destin to Orange Beach. As a born and bread Son of the South, John took it upon himself to teach this "Hemorroid Yankee" the subtle differences between an Adam's apple and a geezle and to appreciate the taste of purple-hull beans, cornbread and hot-boiled "goobers". He proffered the 2:00 am convenience store chili dog as the #1 cure for a hangover and chose crank baits over plastic worms although he would be quick to tell you that he could catch more fish than myself either one! Professionally, John was second to none, a respected leader amongst his peers and enjoyed teaching anyone that was willing to listen and learn.  John was modest in spite of the enormity of the buildings, projects  and monuments he ran start to finish. Humble beginnings of concrete and steel followed by a commitment to his passion, John found joy in the process, rather than the outcome while always favoring laid- back over lime-light. These are my memories and this is how I'll remember my friend John to be...in the quiet places in between.     

John was one of my best friends he would come in and help me in the warehouse when he was between jobs. We became very close and shared many stories together he showed me countless things to help with our job and was a master at his trade. I think about him every day an will do so the ret of my life I love John and will always miss him as I know many of us will.

John showed me a better way to build something in my yard to hold a swing. Now whenever my wife and I sit in the swing, I will think of John. In my short time here at Marek, he has always been one of my favorite people. He will be missed.
