John Reid “Jack” Prechtel, 94, of Marietta, Georgia, passed August 20, 2017. He was born in Orrville, Ohio on July 28, 1923. After he graduated from Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio, Jack entered the United States Army where he served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He married Mary Regina “Jean” Head on May 30, 1947 and was married for 48 years until Jean’s passing in 1995. Except for a brief time after the war in the rubber industry in Akron, Ohio, Jack worked in the payroll department at the Quality Castings Company in Orrville, Ohio from 1949 -1985. He moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1995 and resided there until his death. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville, and St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Marietta. Jack is survived by daughters, Cheryl deRijke and Linda Kaczmarek; son in law, Peter deRijke; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Private burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville at a later date.
