Kathleen Joyce Fowler

Kathleen Joyce Fowler, age 71, of Marietta, Georgia, entered into her heavenly rest on Friday, December 22, 2023. She was born in 1952 to Ray and Merilyn Fowler. She obtained an associate degree from Georgia State University. She worked as a freelance typesetter/proofreader and retired in 2021.

Kathy was an avid reader and enjoyed mastering the fine points of genealogy research. In her spare time, she made beautiful knitted or crocheted items to give to friends and family.

She generously gave of her time to Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (SEGA), a program dedicated to finding good permanent homes for former racing greyhounds. Over the past 20 years, she gave seven greyhounds their forever home. When her dogs had the temperament required to be therapy dogs, she took them to visit seniors in healthcare facilities or college students stressed out by exams. Sometimes her dogs sat in public libraries and helped children gain confidence in reading aloud by “listening intently” to the story being read.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father, Charles Ray Fowler. She is survived by her mother, Merilyn Ross Fowler, her sister, Iris Fowler Hartley (Robert), her nephews, James Daniel Hartley (Ashley) and Thomas Robert Hartley (Kelsey), and her great-nephew, James Wesley Hartley.

A memorial service will be held at HM Patterson & Son—Canton Hill Chapel at 2 pm on Friday, December 29. The family will receive guests immediately before the memorial service between 1 and 2 pm.
