Linnie was born on March 2, 1922, on a farm near Burns, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Leola (Stebbins) Guggisberg. She was one of five children. After the early passing of her father, her mother courageously raised the family through the difficult years of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
Linnie attended a one-room country school and graduated from Burns High School. Her early life on the Kansas prairie instilled in her the values of hard work, perseverance, and gratitude—qualities that would guide her throughout her long and full life.
Linnie married the love of her life, Walter Virgil, and together they built a wonderful life and family. Walter preceded her in death some 35 years ago. Linnie was a devoted homemaker who found her greatest joy in caring for her family and creating a warm and loving home.
In her spare time, Linnie enjoyed ballroom dancing, cheering for her beloved Los Angeles Dodgers, and, most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family will always remember her kind heart, gentle humor, and enduring spirit.
Linnie is survived by her daughter, Donna; her son, Brad; daughter-in-law, Patricia “Maggie”; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, and her siblings - brothers Carl Guggisberg and Harry Guggisberg, sisters Clara Allsopp and Olive Rowland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Linnie’s 103 years were filled with love, family, laughter, and resilience—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
