Mary Shirley McDaniel

Mary “Shirley” McDaniel of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born in Canton, Georgia on Sunday, April 12, 1936. Later, her family moved to Atlanta where she grew up. There she met and married the love of her life, Walter McDaniel. They began their family and moved to Marietta.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother, working tirelessly as a homemaker, raising 5 children of her own and often providing daycare for her grandchildren or a family friend. Second only to Jesus, she loved and treasured her family and friends. She possessed the innate ability to lift the spirits of others, always ready with a comforting smile, a kind word and an abundance of compliments. However, she was also a strong woman who could easily deliver a well-deserved rebuke.

Shirley enjoyed trips with her husband to places like Pigeon Forge and Branson, Missouri. She was an excellent cook. She delighted in planting flowers, was passionate about her dogs and spending time with family. She loved to laugh and scratch off lottery tickets. Her legacy of love will endure forever.

She is predeceased by her parents, Bob & Mary McGaha, her husband Walter McDaniel and all six of her siblings.

She is survived by her children, Kenny (Wanda), Angie, Butch (Teresa), Sheila (Allen) and Kim. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caregiving staff at Kimberly Personal Care for the care and compassion they showed Shirley in her final days. She loved you all and so do we.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 PM.

Interment to follow at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
