
Melvin Lee Tinsley, 90, of Marietta, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013. Melvin was born on January 26, 1923, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. After high school, he joined the Army where he would later serve in WWII. After his time in the military, he attended the University of Kentucky where he received a master’s degree in metallurgical engineering. Mel started his career as head of the Metallurgy Department at Indiana Gear Works. In 1959, he joined Lockheed’s Engineering Department until retirement where he began a second career in property management. Mel was a man of extraordinary character and ability. He was an avid sailor, snow skier, painter, photographer, landscaper, and published author. Mel was a longtime member of John Knox Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and deacon. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sarah (Sally Tinsley); their daughters, Nena Tinsley Allen, and Laura Tinsley McFayden and her husband James McFayden Jr.; grandson, Vincent Arthur Allen and wife Paula Anne Patterson; great grandson, Owen Lee Elvis Allen, and brother, Thomas Tinsley. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19th, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Marietta. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to a charity of choice. H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Directors Canton Hill Chapel is honored to be handling his arrangements.
