Myrtle Jacqueline Newbern Hodapp, 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, with her beloved family at her bedside. She was born in Pearson, Georgia on March 14, 1927 to the late Minnie Moore Newbern, and Jake Newbern. After finishing school at 17, she caught a train to Washington, D.C. to find work.
She was a lifelong public servant starting in D.C. and ending in Marietta, Georgia, in between moving around the country with her husband, Luther Joseph Hodapp, who was a career Marine, and her three daughters. She was a woman of deep faith and firm convictions who never shied from speaking her mind, which was always guided by her strong moral compass. Her path was clear and certain - and never wavered in defense of those in need or an act of kindness. Her delicious kitchen was always open to friends and family.
Coming from deep South Georgia, she became a Catholic and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Rita Lane and Susan Cathleen Hodapp Williams, both of Marietta; six grandchildren Aaron Flesner of Highlands Ranch Colorado, Michael , ‘Christopher and Ryan Lane; Sarah Williams of Chicago, Illinois; Anna Fredrickson of Austin Texas; Three great grandchildren, Amelia Flesner and Hadley May Flesner of Highlands Ranch Colorado; Luke Noah Fredrickson of Austin Texas. And, her beloved friend and caregiver, Myra McDole. She was pre-deceased in death by her loving daughter , Jo Ann Flesner ; five sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Society or the Salvation Army. The funeral service will be at the Catholic Church of Saint Ann , Marietta Georgia on November 24 at 11:00 AM with burial at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
