Funeral Services for Richard L. Beacham (65) will be held Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 at 11AM at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with a family burial to follow in Athens, GA. Rick was the son of Dorothy J. and Walter B. Beacham of Athens, GA. He was raised on Milledge Avenue and spent his afternoons eating ketchup with a few fries at ADD drugs and riding his bike to and from Five Points. He spent his Summers at the Athens YMCA. After graduating high school in 1969, Rick enrolled in the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. On September 1, 1972, Rick departed with a group of students for Terry College’s very first study abroad program. He attended Nijenrode Netherlands where he studied during the week and traveled throughout Europe on breaks. During that time, Rick formed lifelong bonds with his fellow students and ignited a love of travel that burned throughout his life. After graduating from Terry, Rick enjoyed a successful career as a stockbroker. He also co-founded National Telephone Services and founded Stateside Capital (later Churchill Stateside). In 1983 and again in 1987, Rick’s life changed forever when his children Blayne and Ben were born. Together they traveled the country and the world. Rick found happiness and pride in raising his children and passing along his love of photography, music, golf, skiing, travel, and of course The Andy Griffith Show. In 2000 Rick married the love of his life, Missy Day Beacham, in a small ceremony in Charleston, SC (a place they loved). Rick also became a father to Tim and Kate Day. He delighted in teaching Tim to play golf, and would tell anybody who listened about his amazing swing. In Kate he instilled a deep love for travel that she will enjoy for the rest of her life. Anyone who knew Rick knew how much he loved being a dad and how proud he was of his children. Rick and Missy created a wonderful family steeped in traditions like monkey bread on Christmas morning and Rick dressing as Santa on Christmas Eve. Together the family traveled to Switzerland, Aspen, Maine and England, just to name a few places. In the last few years Rick became a Grandfather, a role in which he found true delight. He loved playing golf at the Atlanta Country Club, boating at Lake Lanier, and above all his family.
Rick is survived by his wife Missy Beacham. His cousin Mike Johnson and wife Kathy. His children Blayne and her husband Jimmy Macauley, Ben Beacham and his wife Laura, Tim Day and fiance Ashleigh Searcy, and Kate Day. His nieces Claire Brown and Meredith West. His grandchildren Oliver and Quinn Macauley.
The Beacham Family will receive guests at their home Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30068, is handling the funeral arrangements. Those wishing to send flowers may send them in care of the funeral home.
