Robert Nuel Hunt, known as Bob (that’s Bob spelled backwards), 79, a resident of Cobb County, passed away on December 23, 2018 after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Bob graduated from high school in 1959 from Benedictine Military School, Savannah, Georgia; members of his class continuing to walk each year in Savannah’s St Patrick’s Day parade. Following high school, and a brief stint at St. Leo University as a seminary student, Bob served in the Air Force for several years. In recent years, Bob often wore his USAF ballcap and enjoyed connecting with others that served their nation. Bob had a successful career in computers and information technology, beginning in the days of mainframes the size of rooms with the memory a fraction of a current cell phone and ending with years of dedicated service to keeping the State of Georgia information systems safe from hackers. But for anyone that knows Bob, his real passion was cars. Bob showed love, dedication and creativity in the restoration of numerous antique cars, including Hudsons from the 1930s and 40s, and 50s, Chevys, trucks, sportcars and only the occasional Ford, as a lifelong member and serving as President of the Dixie Chapter of the Hudson, Essex, Terraplane Club, as a friend always willing to help with that tricky engine issue, as a certified appraiser, and an enthusiastic participant of ROMEOs (“Retired Old Men Eating Out”) eating breakfast at Marietta Diner every Tuesday morning with a bunch of other old guys that drive old cars. Bob was a member of the congregation of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Marietta, Georgia for more than 30 years and his family is grateful for the love and support of the St. Ann’s community. Bob married his wife Lynn in 1990 and in the years since the two, often joined at the hip, have travelled, gone on date nights and Sunday morning breakfasts, wandered antique stores in little Georgia towns, extolled the virtues of Dukes mayonnaise to anyone that would listen, cheered on Florida State football, and gone to endless car shows (with some Best of Show awards). Bob’s family and friends were blessed with his many (mostly true) stories, love of a goofy joke, his optimistic spirt and absolute loyalty. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Barbara. He leaves behind his wife Lynn Hunt of Marietta, Georgia, daughter, Catherine Morgen of Atlanta, Georgia, and granddaughters Ella and Chloe Morgen of Atlanta, Georgia, and a crowd of friends from all parts of his life.
Family, friends, and anyone whose lives Bob touched, are invited to an 11am service with reception following at the Catholic Church of St. Ann located at 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia 30062 on January 4, 2019, following which Bob will be laid to rest in a family plot in Monticello, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider contributions in Bob’s name to the Ronald McDonald House, Benedictine Military School or the Mayo Clinic.
