Ruby Garwood

Ruby Thomason Garwood, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2011, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Garwood was born in Gwinnett County on June 30, 1926 and was a long-time resident of both Marietta and Powder Springs. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, traveling by RV, and playing games.

Mrs. Garwood was preceded in death by her husband Sam Garwood, daughter Emily Davis and son Gray Garwood. She is survived by her children Bernard Garwood and Galen Garwood of Chiang Mai, Thailand; Glenn Garwood and wife Karen of Hanahan, SC; Steven Davis and wife Peggy of Greenville, SC; Clair Russell and husband Bill of Modesto, CA; Sharleen Garwood of Oak Ridge, TN; Shawn Garwood and wife Adella of Conroe, TX; brothers Sam, Gene and Jack Thomason, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 12:00pm at Georgia Memorial Park Chapel with Rev. Bert Thurston officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Wellstar Tranquility Hospice, 4040 Hospital West Dr. Austell, GA 30106.
