Sally Lou (Dickert) Conlin, age 94, of Marietta, Georgia passed away May 2, 2024. Sally Lou was born February 11, 1930 and was a long time Atlanta resident. She moved to Atlanta in her teens when her father came to teach at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Sally Lou graduated from Girls’ High School in Atlanta (where she was named “Lovable” in her senior year) and from Agnes Scott College in Decatur.
Sally Lou married Ariel Conlin in 1950. They lived in Athens, Georgia, where she worked to help send Ariel through law school at the University of Georgia. They raised their two daughters in Sandy Springs and then moved to the home they remodeled in Inman Park, where they lived for many years. They retired to Cartersville, Georgia and moved to Marietta to be near their daughter in recent years.
Sally Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress, sewing her daughters’ dresses, and making Barbie clothes and costumes for her granddaughter. She participated in many volunteer and community activities such as Brownie leader, Sunday school teacher, League of Women Voters, and she also participated as an Atlanta Tour Guide for Gray Line Tours.
Preceding Sally Lou in death were her parents, Mabel and Herman Dickert, her daughter, Julia Jane Conlin Cole, and her husband, Ariel Conlin.
Sally Lou is survived by her daughter, Sally Elizabeth Conlin Gary (Bart) of Marietta, Georgia; her grandchildren, Laura Elisabeth Ashby (Michael), Scott Conlin Gary, and Lawrence Andrew Cole, Jr.; her great grandson, Ryan Gary Ashby; her sister, Martha Nelson (Bob) of Cartersville, Georgia; and her cousin, Marguerite (Dickert) Ligon.
Memorial contribution to a favorite charity may be considered in lieu of flowers.
