Mrs. McDaniel was born May 31,1935 in Marietta, the daughter of Joe and Addie Daniel. She attended Mt. Bethel School and graduated from Marietta High School in 1952, where she was a member of the 1951 State Championship Basketball Team and in 1952 was a member of the All-Region basketball team.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was big, but her heart was bigger.
She was a committed follower of Christ and faithful member of Eastside Church. She served in so many roles in her 57 years as a member of Eastside. She was the Director of Vacation Bible School for a couple of years, but most years she took care of the babies during VBS. She was division director in the Children’s Ministry for several years. She served as the coordinator of scheduling workers for the Extended Session in the nursery for many years. She worked in the church nursery and provided childcare for several decades. She was the President of the 10:10 Fellowship, the senior adult group, for 15 years. She volunteered at the Hutchinson Center weekly for nearly 30 years. She was the Secretary for the church bowling league for over 10 years. She helped decorate the church every Christmas for countless years. She even led a team that stuffed the pew pockets with offering envelopes and welcome cards each week. There wasn’t much that Shirley didn’t do at her church.
She was a true friend to all who knew her and the impact she had on others is immeasurable. She cared for countless children of her friends when they had a need. She used her gift as a seamstress to make choir outfits, cheerleading uniforms, bridesmaids dresses, even wedding dresses, for her friends and their children. If there was a need, Shirley was always willing to help.
Shirley is survived by her 5 children, Mike McDaniel, Susan Ridgeway (Greg), Bonnie Wagner (Bob), Carol Brown (Vernon) and Tim McDaniel (Diane), 14 grandchildren; Matthew McDaniel (Isadora), Robby Ridgeway (Kasia), Addie Rodgers (Matt), Jimmy Ridgeway (Dianna), Daniel Ridgeway, Joy Wagner (Greg), Bobby Wagner, Billy Wagner, Celeste Atcheson (Ross), Taylor Brown (Riley), Lana Brown, Brock McDaniel (Regan), Bo McDaniel (Grace), Brennan McDaniel and 12 great-grandchildren; Alexandria McDaniel, Riley McDaniel, Jaxson McDaniel, Ellena McDaniel, Delilah McDaniel, Samuel Ridgeway, Jaylee Ridgeway, Nora Rodgers, Quinn Rodgers, Mackenzie Atcheson, Zoe Brown, Elsie Mae Brown. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank C. McDaniel, Jr. and grandson, Christopher McDaniel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Eastside Church Sunday, November 10 in the sanctuary, with visitation at 1:00 and the service at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Eastside Church Senior Adult Ministry.
