

Mr. Johnson was born in McDowell County, on May 18, 1930, to the late Clyde Buvey Johnson and Artie Mae Lamb Johnson.
He attended Yancey Street Baptist Church and worked over 20 years at Burlington Industries in Clinchfield before he went to work at W.W. Wall in Marion. He finished out his career in textiles as a traveling loom repairman. Mr. Johnson was also well known for being a Bingo operator in McDowell County.
Mr. Johnson was a humble man, and the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone as well as a friendly man who never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was very fond of riding motorcycles and was a backyard mechanic. He loved carpentry and had his own woodshop at home too.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Earl and Wilford Johnson; and two sisters, Pauline Johnson Lakey and Helen Johnson Sparks.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are his wife of 65 years, Edna Smith Johnson; a son, Bryan (Shannah) Johnson of Rock Spring, GA.; two daughters, Rhonda (Bruce) Wilkerson of Woodbine, GA and Jessica (Steven) Lurkins, of St. Marys, GA; a sister, Sara Adams, of Walland, TN; a granddaughter, Maci Johnson and a grandson, Lake Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, NC with the Rev. Richard Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour to the service. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion.
