

He was born September 15, 1936 in Spokane, WA to the late Gerald Hill and Lenora Primmer Hill, who both died at a young age. He was then raised by the late Les and Bert Blankinship. Mr. Hill is a veteran of the US Army and retired from the US Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He continued working for several more years, thus ending as Sanitation Supervisor for the City of Marion. He was an active member of Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale, NC where he is a current Deacon and served in several different capacities. Mr. Hill liked to stay busy, whether it be bowling with his bowling league at Maple Leaf, working outdoors or tinkering with some kind of mechanical equipment. Those who knew him, will remember him as a hardworking, honest man who liked to help others.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hill is preceded in death by his first wife, Iva Marie Hill; one sister, Leah James; and two half -sisters, Ginger Davis and Juanita Martin.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Pate Hill; two sons, Gerald Hill and James Hill and wife, Laura all of Marion; three daughters, Anita Moore, Claudia Hill and boyfriend, Randy Autrey and Terri Edwards and husband, Rick all of Marion; nine grandchildren, Shannon Hill, James Hill, Matthew Hill and wife, Britni, Skylar Hill, Brandon Moore and Fiance’, Rachel Pedler, Edwin “Shaun” Moore, Anthony Hill and Fiance’, Bethany Lanham, Jennifer Ford and husband, Danny and Luke Edwards and wife, Kourtney; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, John, Jerry and Bo Loftis all of Marion; one sister-in-law, Doris Robinson and husband, Danny of Marion; one half-brother, Melvin Deseranno of OR; two half-sisters, Arletha Deseranno of OR and Neta Languin of WA; special friends from his service in the US Air Force, Dave Spinner and Bob Limburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 7, 2017at McDowell Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends again from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale, NC. A Celebration of Mr. Hill’s Life will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Billy Vaughn and Dr. Bruce Caldwell officiating.
