

Jesse James Vess, age 86, died Monday at Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Covington, GA after several bouts with pneumonia. Jesse loved the outdoors, working with his hands, and gospel music. For many years he built and played the mountain dulcimer. His family was first and foremost in his life.
Mr. Vess was born on January 17th, 1927 in Buncombe County to the late Samuel and Dessie Vess. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Vess.
Surviving Mr. Vess is a brother, Homer Vess of Old Fort; daughter Meredith Zaiken of Covington, GA; 3 Grandchildern, Heather Robertson of Greer, SC, Lindi McCaffrey, husband Ryen of Pittsburgh, PA, Amanda Warner, husband Jamie of New York, NY; 3 Great-Grandchildren; Kyla Robertson, Avalene McCaffrey, and Flynn McCaffrey; and many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews who he loved.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 18th at the Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort with Rev. Marty Connor. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cherry Springs Baptist Church Memorial Park.
