Lillian Geneva Hogan Ray, 100, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully, on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Rosehill Retirement Center in Marion.
Mrs. Ray was born in McDowell County, on December 13, 1916, to the late Caleb Pinkney Hogan and Ella Ward Hogan.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Being a mother was the greatest joy and best job Mrs. Ray ever had. She raised eight children all together, three girls and five boys. She was an excellent housekeeper, great cook, and needless to say, a very hard worker. Mrs. Ray also enjoyed gardening in her spare time. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Tilghman Ray; a son, Bobby Ray; a grandson, Gregory Ray; and her ten brothers and sisters.
Surviving Mrs. Ray are her sons, Michael Ray, of Marion, C. Terry (Kathleen) Ray of Dallastown, PA, James (JoAnn) Ray of Marion, NC, Jerry T. (Patricia) Ray of Disputanta, VA, daughters, Mary (James) Valentine, of Felton, PA, Patsy Martin, of Edgemere, MD, and Julia (Ed) Kamberger; a daughter in law, Debbie Ray of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Jean Mace of Marion; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 10:00 AM, at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC. Burial will follow the Funeral Service on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
