
He was born March 22, 1927 in McDowell County, to the late Burroughs C. Miller and Carrie Lytle Miller. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy, worked at Old Fort Finishing Plant for 10 years, and retired following 31 years of service from the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Children will remember him for his smile as he delivered mail to mail boxes on his route.
Mr. Miller was a Deacon for many years and was elected Elder of Old Fort Presbyterian Church. He served several times on the session board and
was a Mason and a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie Thomas Miller of the home;, sons, George Miller of the home and Gary Miller and wife Sheila of Asheville, NC. Two grandchildren; McKenzie and Landon Miller also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Old Fort Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Harold Holcombe and Coy Jeans officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services Sunday afternoon at the church. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made either to Old Fort Presbyterian Church or Hospice of McDowell County.
