Robert (Bob) Roy Creekmore, 86, of Old Fort, NC, passed away January 9, 2018 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC after a brief illness.
Born in Newberry, SC, he was the son of the late Bowers Otto and Augustus Creekmore. He was a 1950 graduate of Newberry High School and of Newberry College in 1953. He was a proud veteran and served in the US Army as a Meteorologist. Robert retired from Cranston Print Works as Technical Manager in 1995 after working in the textile industry for 38 years.
He was a life-long learner and a voracious reader. Genealogy was one of his favorite hobbies, and he enjoyed helping others to learn more about their family trees. He especially loved music, and was a talented pianist, organist and choir director. He began serving as church pianist in the First Baptist Church of Newberry, SC when he was sixteen, and retired as organist for First United Methodist Church in Marion, NC at the age of 82, having served a total of 66 years praising the Lord with music. He taught bible studies, and was an ordained deacon. He was active in the community, serving as the accompanist for the Old Fort Community Chorus for several years, a Trustee for McDowell Technical Community College, and a member of the McDowell County Library Board. He was a regular at the Old Fort Senior Center, and enjoyed playing the piano for the enjoyment of all who attended.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Allison Creekmore of Old Fort, NC; son Todd Creekmore (Yvonne) of Lexington, SC, sisters Barbara Smith (Lamar) of Greenville, SC and Lynn Watson (Mike) of Holden Beach, NC along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 2:00 PM, officiated by the Rev. Jeremy Shoulta and the Rev. Tim Lolley. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the church with burial at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, NC., following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain, 130 Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
