Stephen L. “Steve” Shlater, Sr., 73 of Markle passed away on July 5, 2021 at his residence. Steve served his country in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He was a huge racing fan and had worked at the Eldorado Speedway. He also worked as a welder at General Electric for several years as well as Wayne Metal.
He was born on September 3, 1947 in Wolf Lake, Indiana, the son of the late Robert and Betty (Weigold) Shlater.
Survivors include two sons: Stephen (Paige) Shlater, Jr. of Fort Wayne, Scott Shlater of Huntertown; two brothers: Robert (Karen) Shlater of Huntington, James Shlater of Fort Wayne; a sister: Sondra Shlater of Churubusco; two grandsons: Zachary (Katie) Shlater, Ethan Shlater; two great granddaughters: Brynleigh Shlater and Adrienne Shlater.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: William Shlater and Richard Shlater.
