Doris Helen Schmid of Waco, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, September 21, 2015. She had spent the Sunday before her death with all her children having lunch, enjoying the day, laughing, and giving her motherly advice. Services will be held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Bill Swearingen officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Marlin, Texas.
Mrs. Schmid was born March 3,1921, at home in the Mart area to Earl and Jessie Hughes. She was a homemaker and mother in the Otto area of Falls County most of her life before retiring with her husband to Waco.
On March 29, 1939, she married Joe Schmid, the love of her life. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2005. They shared 66 years of marriage together, and had three children who were blessed with loving and giving parents.
Mrs. Schmid was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, and her siblings: Conyer, Doyle, Edna Earl, Leon, E. C., and Billy Gene.
She is survived by her children: Joe E. Schmid and wife Georgia of the Otto area, Sandra Black and husband Ben of Waco, and Phyllis Schmid of Abilene. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren whom she referred to as her handsome young men and lovely granddaughter: Pam Norman and husband Kenneth, Barry Black and wife Katherine, Brandon Black and wife Jennifer, and Jared Schmid. She was also blessed with five great grandchildren: Drew Trautman, Payton Norman, Kyle Black, Kennedy Black, and Hudson Black. Left to cherish her memory are several people she always referred to as “her other kids”: Joe and Sally Short, Tracy Short, Chris Keathly, and Nancy and Dennis Kidwell.
Her family and the friends she made during her 94 years on earth will miss her greatly. They know that she is probably in Joe's arms waltzing to “Somewhere My Love”. We, the family will grieve her passing: but, we know that we have been especially blessed to have had her love and guidance all these years.
Pallbearers will be Barry Black, Brandon Black, Jared Schmid, Kenneth Norman, Drew Trautman, and Joe Short. Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Sims and Dennis Kidwell.
